Lake Shawnee Softball Complex to be renamed Envista Softball Complex
TOPEKA, KAN. -- Shawnee County Commissioners have approved a contract authorizing an eight-year agreement between Envista Credit Union, the Parks For All Foundation and Shawnee County Parks + Recreation that will see the Lake Shawnee Girls Softball Complex renamed the Envista Softball Complex. Envista Credit Union has made a $$440,000 gift to the Parks For All Foundation. The gift will be paid at $55,000 annually.
“At Envista, our goal to lead, inspire and impact our community through our giving,” said Ron Smeltzer, CEO. “We have a responsibility to make sure that Shawnee County is a place to live, work and play for many generations to come. We are proud and honored to be a part of the beauty and excellence that can be found at Lake Shawnee and now the upgraded softball complex.”
SCP+R has installed artificial turf infields at the softball complex to bring them up to the same level as the infields at Bettis Family Sports Complex. In addition to serving SCP+R recreational leagues and hosting tournaments, the complex serves as the home field for Shawnee Heights High School softball.
“With recent improvements designed to attract additional softball tournaments to Shawnee County, we are excited to have the financial support of Envista Credit Union to see that our softball complex remains an outstanding facility,” said Tim Laurent, SCP+R director.
The improvements will help attract even more softball tournaments to Shawnee County. In 2019, 39 baseball and softball tournaments generated $7 million in local economic activity from teams staying in hotels, eating at restaurants, buying gasoline and visiting entertainment venues.
