Advisory Board
Purpose
The Shawnee County Parks & Recreation Advisory Board is organized exclusively to provide input, assistance, feedback, and support to the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation Department and its Director, as well as provide advice and information to the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Shawnee, Kansas, and to the public. The scope of the Shawnee County Parks & Recreation Advisory Board is advisory in nature and retains no binding authority over the final decision of the Director of Shawnee County Parks & Recreation and/or the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Shawnee, Kansas.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Advisory Board is:
“As representatives of the public, we are committed to supporting the mission of the Parks and Recreation Department by providing advice and recommendations to the Director and the Board of County Commissioners.”
Background
The Shawnee County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was formed through Contract Nos. 304-2011 and 313-2011. The Shawnee County Parks & Recreation Advisory Board was organized exclusively to provide input, assistance, feedback, and support to the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation Department and its Director, as well as provide advice and information to the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Shawnee, Kansas, and to the public. The scope of the Shawnee County Parks & Recreation Advisory Board is advisory in nature and retains no binding authority over the final decision of the Director of Shawnee County Parks & Recreation and/or the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Shawnee, Kansas. The Executive Committee of the Advisory Board recommended Listening Tours to be held one (1) in each City Council District and one (1) in each County Commission District outside the city limits of Topeka, committees were formed to work directly with staff involved with Parks, Recreation, Golf and Long-Range Planning, and a questionnaire was distributed at each listening tour stop and online.
Meetings
The meetings are open to the public and are held the 3rd Wednesday of each month in the City Council Chambers (municipal courtroom), 214 SE 8th Street. The meetings are cablecast live on the city's governmental access Channel 4 on the Cox Cablevision Network.
